10 Simple Holiday Decorations

Sometimes time or money gets in the way of decorating
the home around the holidays to the extent you might like.
Here are a bunch of simple, budget-friendly decorating ideas
to bring a bit of The Farmhouse to your home. All of
these ideas are easily accessible with little fuss & cash.

1. Bells

They can be purchased at a thrift shop, dollar store or
antique shops. They can be embellished with pretty ribbons or twine. They can be hung from a door, be strung on a garland
or wreath or just piled in a bowl.

2. Branches

Whether you pick some from your yard, open space or your
local florist; greens & berries can make an entire room
feel festive. Placed in a bucket or tied up & hung on a door;
these are a quick & easy holiday addition to any space.

3. Pinecones

These too can be found on a walk, at a craft store or
your local farmers market. Easily added to a garland
or piled in a bowl. Pinecones are perfect as is,
frosted white, or painted gold. Bringing the outdoors in &
scenting the room at the same time.

4. Chalkboards

I still love the look of chalkboards in the home. These can
be crafted with a little chalkboard paint or purchased on Etsy
if you're not so crafty. Write a special message or
just hang greens in front. Simple & festive. These also
move perfectly into your New Years celebrations.

5. Bottles & Tags

Easy to come by...from your recycling bin or an antique store,
bottles with berry branches & stamped tags make gorgeous
holiday displays. Perfect for the mantle or a bookshelf for
a pop of color & a place for inflection.

6. Cranberries

Cranberries just make everything merry & bright. Strung into
a garland or wreath you can dress up a mantel or mirror quickly.
Or even easier throw some in a mason jar & add some greens
for a super easy yet festive candle for your dinner table.

7. Mini Tree

You could use a branch from your main tree or purchase a
small inexpensive tree specifically for this. We plan to
pick one from our front acre for the stairway (inspired by the bottom image.) The nice thing about a mini tree is that it
doesn't need much decoration, just a unique vessel to hold it
which you can find in your barn or pantry.

8. Paper Crafts

If you're feeling crafty, you can create some awesome
paper art decorations that will add unique cheer to your home.
Whether you use craft paper, old books or plain white paper
choose a simple design & repeat often. These can be strung
onto a garland or into a wreath. Or decorate your tree
with the creations. Either way it brings a personal touch
to your holiday decor.

9. Wreaths

I'm hoping to get around to making my own wreath this year,
but in case you don't have the time or acres full of trees
that need limbing you can purchase super nice wreaths
at club stores, your local farmers market or craft fair.
Just add a fabulous grain sack ribbon, hang
on a chalkboard or vintage door.

10. Votives

And if all else fails...find some votive holders, mason jars
or vintage tins or champagne glasses to fill with tea lights. Everything looks better glowing in candlelight; right?

25 Days of Christmas ~ Days 7 - 13

It's definitely been an interesting holiday season so far...
We got a blanket of snow here at The Farmhouse which made
it easy to hunker down & decorate a few corners of the house.

Here's a re-cap from the past week...

My favorite vintage tree ~ green & sparkly in a galvanized bucket

The sunshine finally peaked out ~ one of our pines was glowing

A corner decorated in our guest bedroom ~ one area without chaos

The snow dusted a wagon wheel ring that we found on the property

I got a little crafty ~ thyme, cranberries & a mason jar

Finally got out & hit a new thrift shop ~ all 3 for less than $5

Our Viking range in the garage ~ soon to be in our kitchen

A stack of silver trays ~ so pretty with the perfect patina

Happy Friday!

Cheers ~ Erica
