The Barn Open House

I'm not quite sure how June has passed

& July is already coming to an end quickly...

I wanted to share some of the gorgeous photos that

my sweet friend Katie of Katie White Photography took

at our Open House at the end of May.

 

It was fabulous being able to finally open our studio up

{we call her The Barn}

to wedding vendors, brides-to-be & our community.

We decked her out with some sweet vignettes & details...

A few Sweetheart Table set ups to highlight our

Tables, Mix-n-Match Chairs, Mix-n-Match China, Silver & Glassware

as well as our other Tabletop Elements

& had a couple lovely vendors join us to showcase their craft...

My friend Jennifer from Farm to Table Catering

brought some tasty bites

that went well with our Sangria Bar!

And we couldn't have a "party" without sweets; could we?!?

Debbie from I Do's by Deb (new to the Gold Country)

brought a gorgeous tiered cake for show

& some incredibly tasty macaroons that she displayed on our

Melanie Farmhouse Table in The Barn

 

And Angela from Angela Nunnink ~ Hair & Makeup Artistry

showcased her talent with a sweet partial updo with flowers from

Amy at Bee, Leaves N' Love in our woodland "bridal suite"

And of course more sweets from the lovely Joanna of

Vintage Blossom Cakes

with 2 stunning show cakes & lots of delicious mini cupcakes

All displayed beautifully on our new Caledonia Table

& Silver Cakes Stand & Trays

And even a little corner for the gents...

Word of the Year…Gather

So another year has gone by...

2015 is in full swing!!

I can't believe January is already coming to a close.

Being fairly new to the wedding industry

I thought January would be a fairly slow month...

time for me to reflect on the new year,

get my studio organized,

update my website with new inventory...

maybe even start getting back into trail running & yoga.

Ha!!!

Not much of that has happened.

But a lot of good stuff has been going on,

so I'm definitely not complaining!

We finally finished The Barn, my new studio space.

This has been a long time coming. When we first bought our house

we saw the little shed in the back of the property

with 2 & a half walls, a dirt floor & a marvelous tin roof!

We knew we needed to create a magical space in there.

Three years later & we finally finished it. I'll post a before & after in the next few weeks, but here's a glimpse of it.

I've been busy sorting through a lot of inventory

that has been in storage for years. I can't tell you how much

fun this has been "finding" some amazing pieces in my

own collection that I forgot I had. I've also been

able to go through some of my parents collection.

They are remodeling & finally ready to let go of some things

they've held onto for years. I've also been having fun sourcing some items for a few upcoming weddings.

Just a couple of the items I scored...

We feel blessed for all the vendors we've met over the past year

& the friends we've now gained. Jennifer & Carlos

of Farm to Table Catering have been such awesome champions

of Tin Roof Farmhouse. They just purchased a new

tasting room / kitchen in the foothills

where Tin Roof Farmhouse has been able to help

decorate/stage some of our rental pieces.

We were also busy getting ready for a

Winter Valentine's Styled Shoot

with Katie of Katie White Photography.

(Find our first styled shoot we collaborated on here.)

We planned to do a dramatic shoot in the snow,

with a long red gown, elegant hair & make-up,

a sweet little settee & gorgeous cakes propped up on

a beautiful desert bar with an elaborate backdrop...

Well, as you may know...It's been sunny & in the 60's & 70's

up here in the foothills, so we had a change of plans.

We quickly shifted plans & created a sweet

French-inspired Valentines Engagement Styled Shoot

More to come on this later...but here's a little peak.

So now I'm scrambling to get product shots completed,

new inventory uploaded to the website &

The Barn organized so I can not only be creative

but also to showcase all the goods we have collected

to potential clients.

So what does this have to do with

The Word of the Year?

I've been thinking a lot about this as the month has passed.

Last year I chose CREATE as my word. (See last years post here.)

It was a good word

& I feel like we were able to create a lot...

website built & launched

new vendor relationships

styled shoots

a new home

The Barn

So this year I'd like to continue to CREATE, but

this year will be all about GATHERing!!

I want The Farmhouse to be a place where friends & family

can gather for relaxing getaways. I'm hoping to create a space

in The Barn for people to gather, collaborate & create.

And of course I'll be gathering even more inventory

& ideas to make Tin Roof Farmhouse even better.

So The Word of the Year for 2015 is

Summer Projects

Wow! Where did the summer go!?!

I can't believe July just flew by

& we're midway through August.

So, we've been busy trying to get through ALL of our projects before winter arrives. We haven't actually completed any of them, but we've been busy. Here's a little bit of what
we've been working on...

• The Barn: converting an old tack room / shed into my new studio ~ yay! I couldn't be more excited about finishing this project, but as with everything…it's taking longer than expected. This will end up being my showroom for all our {VINTAGE RENTALS}.
• Utilities & Electrical: We're upgrading our electrical system to current standards & moving our incoming service. My sweetie is learning a lot about electrical systems. We're also upgrading our propane & water systems so we can finally have a washer & dryer hooked up & our gorgeous Viking stove functioning. I can't wait!
• Property Clean-up: We're still clearing all the slash & destruction from the logging operation we took on in April. We need one (maybe 2) more day(s) of chipping to get through the piles of limbs & a few days with our neighbors tractor grating & cleaning up the property. We're hoping to have our Meadow back next Spring & the property ready to start some fun outdoor projects: garden beds, greenhouse, chicken coop, small orchard, horseshoe pit, front patio & who knows what else...
• Winter Weatherizing: We have tons of work on the exterior of the house that needs to be buttoned up before winter shows up. Replacing gutters, patching up stucco walls, sealing & painting exterior walls & eves. And who knows maybe replacing some old windows with new double-paned ones & putting a french door into our breezeway. We'll see that might be wishful thinking this year.
• Vintage Rental Projects: I also finally completed a few projects that have been on the list for a looong time now. I kept thinking I would start some projects once I got my workroom/office finished, but it quickly got filled up with inventory & I couldn't get anything done in there. So then we started working on The Barn & I thought I'd start once that was completed, but like I mentioned above, it's taking a little longer than expected. So I finally needed to complete some things for our recent photo shoot at Cavallo Point (more to come later on this).
• Chalkboards: His & Hers a few pieces of plywood, chalkboard paint & a vintage gold picture frame & scratched silver tray. Time for a makeover. Here's the BEFORE...

• Table: Jenna Sweetheart Drop-leaf Table I've had this sweet little table for years…always knowing I would paint it, but never seemed to get around to it. I had thoughts of painting it an apple green or bright orange, but good ol' farmhouse white won over once again. So here it is BEFORE...

Highlighting Creative Women ~ Vendor #2: ByMadelineTrait

So, I met the lovely Madeline last fall at the

Flax DIY Wedding Fair (read all about it here) &

ran into her again at the LOVE/MAKE Wedding Fair this April

(read about that fun collaboration here). She is a

super creative design star! She started out in the

architecture & interior design world, but allowed her creative

side to take hold & she launched ByMadelineTrait back in 2009

(read a little more about that here).

She creates super fun & whimsical cake toppers…

All her work starts with her amazing illustrations. Did I mention how creative she is?!? Then the cake toppers are laser cut on thin plywood & she finishes them by hand painting them.

They are so gorgeous & make a statement at any celebration.

They're rustic & fancy all in one sweet little package.

One of my current favorites from her is the Sailing Ships

with the perfect amount of sparkle. Great for a going away party or a nautical-themed party. Just fabulous!
